On September 7, 2023, the CPSC announced a recall of Chinese-made smart plugs.

The recall is for Emporia's North America smart plugs. The product is white, 120V (240V EU) in dimensions 3-1/2 inches wide, 1-1/2 inches high and 1 inch thick, with "Emporia" printed on the front, and consumers can use the Emporia app to monitor and control most household appliances (fans, lights, humidifiers, etc.) and other electronic devices on smartphones. Products are sold single or multiple.

The product is not sufficiently grounded, causing a risk of electric shock to the user.

The recalled products were sold between July 2022 and May 2023, with about 80,000 units sold at prices ranging from $12 to $35.

So far, we have received 2 reports of equipment not being able to operate due to insufficient grounding of the product, and no casualties have been reported.

The CPSC recommends discontinuing use of the product immediately and contacting Emporia for a full refund or free replacement.
